Hey seaster,
Weather in Vancouver this weekend was WAY TOO HOT. 43 with the humidity and no air conditioning anywhere - so we went for a float! BC Parks let's you book day passes for a few of their sites, and after waiting an hour in line at the front of the park with no a/c in the car, we made it! Golden Ears Provincial Park, floating down Golden Creek to Alouette Lake.
The water was soooo cold, but once you got used to it, it was bearable (but only bearable enough to have your butt and feet in). A beautiful way to stay cool! We were so sun safe too - nobody even got a tan!
The end of the day was a little bit sad. Some youth were beside us for an hour at the end, drinking heavily and making a big ol' ruckus. When they packed up to leave, they left all of their cans right beside the water- I became a green monster and asked them to take them with them.. which they did... but on the walk out, we saw they had dumped them all into the bushes instead. The whole 1km walk back to the car was littered with can, bottles, barbecue coal, plastic wrapping, masks, etc. We did our best to collect what we could (our arms were pretty full!), but couldn't get it all. It makes me so upset that so many people reaped the benefits of nature all day, and didnt have the decency to treat her with reciprocal respect. Made the end of the day a little bit sour for us, but overall it was a beautiful, sunny, chilly river day.
Love ya,
Hailey
